About this deal

Lanyard: (This is essentially the same as the Fast Stem Hook from the Original). This method hooks the lanyard loop over the stem of the trailing bike. Even our 3-year-old rider could hook and unhook the lanyard by herself. To get a better feel for the TRAX MTB, we did a head-to-head test with the TowWhee tow rope system. While the two tow ropes are essentially identical in their purpose, we found their respective designs make them better suited for different types of riders and riding situations. Have you ever had to end a ride early because your child couldn’t make it up a hill, or because they got tired before you made it to your destination?

The TowWhee CONNECT debuted in 2022 as an update on TowWhee’s Original rope. While both are still available, the CONNECT comes with a lanyard loop sewn into the end of the rope. It also comes with a caribiner. During our rides, we did come across one downside to the TRAX MTB. The tension on the cable allows it to be pulled out smoothly, but upon reaching the end of the cable you can sometimes feel it come to an abrupt end. It’s not as stretchy as the competitors, nor is it as durable. It can tow 265 pounds, compared to 500 pounds for the TowWhee. Our son is 9 now and can pedal most things on his own. In fact, he’s often faster than I am! Same goes for his friends. The BicycleBungee is out for most people based on price alone, so that leaves us with the Tow-Whee vs the Trax MTB. Unlike the Trax MTB, the Trax Pro can be used with a dropper post inserted all of the way into the frame. It also provides additional tire clearance for adults with a small frame OR for adults towing another adult. Extending out to almost 15 feet, the TowWhee also allowed the tow rider to ride much farther behind the lead rider. We found this longer distance to be beneficial to younger riders. In addition to providing more time to start, it also provided them more time to stop!

We used it for one and a half rides like this before we snapped the rope. Now to be fair to Trax MTB, we were pushing it to the limit and it did NOT snap when using it to tow a kiddo. And our family has been known to snap other tow ropes before. The Trax is tiny….in fact it’s a bout 1/4 of the size of the similarly designed BicycleBungee. This is great for anybody who is worried about either weight or aesthetics. I haven’t taken this tow rope fat biking on the snow while towing my wife, whom is towing a trailer with our rascal in it (like we did with the orginal Trax MTB). However, I have towed other adults and children with the fatbike and my hard tail both, uphill and it has worked out flawlessly. In total, the rope can haul up to 265 pounds (120 kg’s) vs the 200 pounds that the Trax MTB can haul. This is a noticeable improvement, but still less than a rope like the TowWhee. Mounting Due to its shorter cable and less “give” upon reaching the end of the cable, we would recommend the TRAX MTB or TRAX PRO for more advanced riders. While it gets easier with time, the initial jolt when being pulled by the TRAX ropes was much less preferred by our less confident kid testers than the gradual pull of the elastic TowWhee.
