About this deal

Thanks to the coronavirus, I wasn’t able to convene a full panel of outside listeners, but I was able to coax saxophonist and music industry pro LeRena Major in for a quick listening session before Los Angeles pretty much shut down. I can connect to both my iPhone 11 Pro and my Huawei Matebook X Pro at the same time and the Marshall Monitor II ANC headphones has no problems switching between them depending on which one was playing audio.

While the most interesting feature in the brand’s first generation of Monitor headphones was that it had two 3.once we’re able with improved sound quality measurements, isolation performance plots, and standardized microphone demos. The drums on this track can sound like a subtle tap through headphones that offer a flatter response, but they sound huge here—not quite to the point of sounding unnatural, but this is, without a doubt, a bass-lover's sound signature that's not suited for anyone seeking a more accurate, flat response. You can also reassign the “M” multifunction button to either access Siri, the Google Assistant, or switch between three EQ presets. To prevent the headphones from using unnecessary power in standby mode, the app offers an adjustable timer for switching off.

With the IO-6es, the sound was even more spacious, although Cole’s voice sounded a little more sibilant and a little less full, and the bass a little too boomy. There was some slight pressure on the crown of my head after about two hours of wearing the headphones, but it wasn’t anything that required me to take it off. It uses the microphones built into the headphones to pick up and slightly amplify your environment, which is helpful if you need to hear announcements while on planes or public transportation.

Still, I don’t worry about it potentially cracking in my backpack like I do with the Bose headphones. Depending on sound preferences, the app offers seven EQ presets, which can also be individualised using a five-band equaliser in the frequencies 160, 400, 100, 2500 and 6250 Hertz.

Codec support is limited to SBC only (that doesn’t hold back Bose) but you do get voice assistant support and there’s an accompanying mobile app so you can tweak the settings via your phone. The Monitor II ANC are the classic black headphones with the white logo script on the outer earpieces, the Mid ANC have the gold logo script. I had a really bad experience with a Marshall Major headphone, after 2 years the earpads and the fake leather started to flake and the rubberized aluminium to be super-easiliy scratched. Its headphones, in particular, have been a big hit with fashion-conscious consumers and the new Marshall Monitor II ANC are its latest offering. The only two other buttons are integrated neatly into the backside of each hinge: the left button lets you switch between the headphones’ ANC and talk-through modes; the right “M-button” is a custom control you can use to activate your digital assistant (Google Assistant or Siri) or flip between one of three preset EQ modes.

It does a good job at blocking out sounds in the higher frequencies, but it’s the slight bump between 100Hz to 1000Hz that you should take notice of.My experience with the Marshall Monitor II headphones has been, in short; revolutionary - and I simply cannot go back to my regular earbuds again without feeling at least a hint of disappointment. As previously touched upon, should you find yourself on an awkward work day where you've simply not charged the Monitor IIs for some time - you can simply plug in your coiled cable and carry on listening to your jams (at the cost of its Active Noise Cancelling and on-headphones controls) - a simple feature that simply cannot be praised enough. A sturdy foldable design, excellent controls, a comfy fit, customisable noise cancelling and great all-round sound performance are sure to make these cans a big hit. On paper, I had expected the 320 grams of weight to be a dealbreaker, but these headphones are so incredibly comfortable and fit around my head so well that I don’t feel the extra weight compared to the 196 grams of the Bose QC35 II. The headband is cushy but stable — it doesn’t slide back over my hair like the super smooth one on the Bose 700.
