About this deal

Black Moth are four super talented individuals, Harriet Bevan - vocals, Jim Swainston - guitar, Dave Vachon - bass, and Dom McCready, battering the crap out of his drums. Sleaford Mods is an English music duo based in Nottingham, composed of vocalist Jason Williamson and musician Andrew Robert Lindsay Fearn (since 2012).

Like the aforementioned acts, Sleaford Mods have got a fabulous grasp of the mechanics of penning a raw, manic pop tune. This lends the record an uncomfortable cubism – a hotchpotch of half-remembered impressions from the night before coming into relief through the hangover's haze: a disorienting miasma of contemporary bullshit.Hard not to like the whole album as it is a stinging wake up and listen slap, that makes a change from pseudo tough nut bands.

If you dig the cynical, parochial, outsider attitude of acts as diverse as MC Pitman, The Fall, John Cooper Clark, Half Man Half Biscuit, et al then you'll recognise the unapologetic, uncompromising mettle present here. Closer listening (to Jason Williamson’s lyrics), reveals wit and humour in abundance mixed with clever word play - a harsh realistic ‘tails’ to Shaun Ryder’s hedonistic ‘heads’. Williamson doesn't always sing in the first-person, though – there are frequent changes of perspective in mid-flow. Austerity Dogs is a collection of old and new songs from the duo where the distinctive street-preaching is found marching along lo-fi drum machine beat patterns and sinister bass lines. There's no special claims made for the city; no grandly romantic nonsense about its worth vis-a-vis other UK cities.
